about us
We moved here to Over Langshaw 25 years ago form Argyll; the farm has a total of 460 acres, 250 plough- able, 150 permanent grass and the remainder hill and woodland. It sits at between 620 and 1000ft.
We converted to organic in the millennium; we felt there must be a more sustainable way of farming without using artificial fertilisers and herbicides. The conversion took a couple of years to let the land go back to its natural state, and we have been sowing grass and clover since then to build up a vigorous sward. The farm faces SW and it is a good grass growing farm with a healthy balance of livestock and cropping.
Wildlife- Ponds at the lower end of the farm provide a nesting area for mallard teal, snipe, moorhens etc, and in winter home to a few greylag geese. Brown hare and roe dear to be seen in the Scots pine and rowan woods, with rooks nesting noisily in the higher branches.
